Extraordinary Least Squares is located at the heart of Capitol Hill neighborhood at the following address:

-

The best way to get ELS is by bike. Delmar Drive has bike lines in both directions and has good connections to the Bill Dawson trail, beautiful Interlaken Boulevard, and other bicycle infrastructure. We have plenty of places to park and lock your bike outside.

- -

When visiting us, walk through the metal gate and find our main door right beyond it. Please keep in mind that our doorbell is not currently functional. Call one of us when you are outside the door and we will let you in.

When visiting us, walk through the fence door and go up the front porch steps. Ring our doorbell or call one of us when you are outside the door and we will let you in.

Transit Directions

-

The best bus to our house is the 49 which will arrive at either the - E Roanoke St & Broadway E station if you are coming from downtown or Capital Hill or across the street at the 10th Ave E & E Roanoke St station if you coming from the University District or north Seattle.

+

ELS is easily accessible by a number of different transport options. The King County Metro Route 10 bus runs directly between us and downtown with a stop at the Capitol Hill Link station. Alternatively, it's a 15-20 minute walk from the Link station to the house.

Bike Directions

-

If you are coming from downtown Seattle, Capital Hill, or the airport, the bus will drop you at the southwest corner of Roanoke Park. Walk back across the park opposite of the direction the bus was traveling when you dismounted along East Roanoke Street.

+

The house is easily accessible by bicycle although Capitol Hill is a serious hill! Here are our best methods for minimizing the hills:

+ -

If you are coming from the University district or north Seattle, the bus will let you off on the east side of 10th avenue. In this case, walk back opposite to the direction that the bus was traveling when you dismounted toward the park across the street. When you cross the street and arrive at the park, you will turn and walk toward your right.

+

We have plenty of places to park and lock your bike in the front yard and back garage.

-

Once you come to the end of the park, you will cross 10th Avenue and then cross cross East Roanoke itself as the road turns to the right. Walk past a small parking lot and park (Bagley Viewpoint) and then over a freeway overpass. As it crossed over the freeway, the road's name has changed to Delmar Drive East and our house will be on the right 480 meters (0.3 miles) from the bus stop.

- -

When you arrive at the house, call one of the proprietors when you have arrived outside.

- -

The nearest bus stop is Boyer Ave E & 14th Ave E but this stop is served only the 25 which runs to the University District and Laurelhurst. Because the bus runs relatively infrequently and only on weekdays, it's will not likely be the best option.

+ -

Parking

+ -

Delmar Drive East has bikes lanes on both sides (Yay!) but no street parking. The house has a carport (where the silver car is parked in the picture) which might be able to fit a car in addition to the car that lives at the house if we have advance notice. Additionally, there is also a small driveway (where the blue and black cars are parked in the picture) that is normally unused but can fit two cars — especially if one is willing to be parked in. Please do not park in the neighbors driveway!

-

Street parking seems to be available on 14th Avenue E which is the nearest cross street on Delmar and is very near our house. Short-term parking is also available in the Bagley Viewpoint parking lot.

A taxi from SeaTac airport to Extraordinary Least Squares should cost $50-60 (with tip) and take about 25 minutes — but might take much more with traffic. App-based ride systems should cost under $40. Mass transit requires one transfer, costs $2.75, and take about an hour.

Mass Transit

At SeaTac airport, follow signs to ground transportation and to the LINK light rail which is located at the far left of the main terminal on the check-in level. At the light rail station, you can buy tickets and ORCA cards which are reusable on all Seattle-area mass transit. You can also buy a single-use paper ticket although the paper ticket does not support transfers so the ORCA card will be nearly cost-effective on the ride to ELS from the airport alone.

- -

If you buy an ORCA card, you will need to tap it on a yellow terminal both before you enter, and after you exit the train. The terminal at the airport station is before the ticket machines, so you will need to backtrack slightly to tap your card if you buy it at the airport.

-

Take the LINK train until the University Street station which take 36 minutes and stop at 11 stops. At University Street, you will need to change to a bus. Note there is no cellular network in the University Street station, so you may want to get a copy of these directions before you arrive there.

-

The LINK station is underground and the buses you will want to take travel on the street above. In the station, walk in the direction of the train and go up the stairs to the north platform. Follow signs for an exit onto 3rd Avenue and University which should be to the left if you are facing the direction of the train. You should exit onto the east side of 3rd Avenue. When outside, walk south (i.e., the opposite direction of the train) to 3rd Avenue and Seneca Street (one block back) and look for a large bus stop that lists the 49 route. The 49 leaves frequently (every 10-20 minutes all day until midnight and as late as 2:18am). You can install the free software phone application "OneBusAway" or view the OneBusAway website for real-time data on bus arrivals.

-

Take the 49 north toward Broadway and the University District. Tapping your ORCA card at the bus entrance will register a "transfer" from the LINK which means you will not be charged for the bus. Stay on the bus for about 20 minutes to the stop at E Roanoke St & Broadway E which will be displayed on a digital display on the ceiling at the front of the bus.

-

Once you have gotten off the bus, follow the instructions under "Transit Directions" above for directions from the bus stop to our house.
